The Baltimore Love Project is a city-wide street art project that expresses love by connecting people and communities across Baltimore City through love themed murals. We hope a man is moved to pick up flowers for his girlfriend. Or someone thinks to hold the door open for the person behind them. Maybe someone is inspired to to forgive a friend in a recent argument. This project is not here to change the world, just to bring a little love to our city. These murals have already inspired change, if just through small, tangible acts of love from one to another.
What was the biggest challenge or biggest surprise?
“My curiosity peaked as I gazed at the Baltimore Love Project wall…This is one mural in Baltimore City that is the epitome of creativity. In Baltimore City, there is a large gang associated population. Many of the gang members are able to identify themselves by colors, and by representation of hand gestures. I am excited for these murals to be placed deeper into the city so that when a gang member sees these finger symbols he or she will identify with love rather than a gang. The murals capture the essence of simple gestures to make observers stop for one moment and analyze not only the image of the word but an image of self. I appreciate the fact that it is a local effort to spread love throughout my hometown.” -Megan Reid (Baltimore Polytechic High School student)
