Project Summary

a gathering for those who create

Project Description

free to participants and organized by volunteers – diy days is about the accessibility of ideas, resources and networking that can enable creators to fund, create, distribute, and sustain. Use storytelling and the cross-pollination of ideas as tools for cultural and social innovation. diy days was founded by Lance Weiler at Reboot stories in 2007 as a grassroots initiative to fuel creative sustainability for innovators in the arts. It is attended by a mix of storytellers, filmmakers, artists, hackers, game developers, educators, scientists, architects, musicians, and designers who come together for a day of experimentation, across disciplines and media – a day where inspiration meets action. Being inspired by the innovative work of Lance Weiler at Reboot Stories and the methods of Jorgen van der Sloot at Freedomlab, Jasmine Idun Lyman at Story architect decided to bring the diy days experience to Gothenburg. Partnering with Lindholmen Science Park, Gothenburg Film Studios, Gothenburg International Film Festival, and several other collaborators, we created a day full of co-creation and open access giving people opportunities to develop and present their own projects. diy days Gothenburg had a focus on the value of creativity, addressing themes like sustainability for creators, storytelling and hacking for social innovation, digital literacy, transmedia communication, crowdfunding, new business models, story architecture, storyworld-weaving for cross-disciplinary co-creation, and more. The design for this event was created in a year-long dialogue with creators, educators, students, entrepreneurs, policy makers, etc., in order to make it as accessible and effective as possible. We see this project as a catalyst for further initiatives and hope to bring the experience back on a yearly basis. site http://www.gothenburg.diydays.com/about/ contact info@diydays.com
